One Economy 10th Anniversary Celebration
10th Anniversary Program
On Thursday, October 7, 2010, One Economy celebrated 10 YEARS of connecting people to the power of technology and information at the NEWSEUM in Washington, D.C. More than 400 guests filled the NEWSEUM's state-of-the-art Annenberg Theater for the 10th Anniversary Program. The program began with a tribute to all companies, foundations, and individuals which have so generously given to One Economy over the past 10 years.
David Cohen, Executive Vice President at Comcast Corporation, introduced 4 outstanding individuals as winners of the $2,500 Comcast Digital Connector Scholarship – Alexi Calderon, Jaime Salmeron, Bryant Wright, and Noureldin Noor.
One Economy was delighted to announce the inaugural Ramsey Award for Excellence in Mentorship by honoring Rey Ramsey, Chairman of the Board, former CEO, and co-founder of One Economy Corporation. The award was announced by fellow co-founder Ben Hecht. In the spirit of moving into the future, after his gracious acceptance of the Ramsey Award, Rey introduced One Economy’s new CEO Kelley Dunne.
One Economy also took this opportunity to honor two exceptional individuals.
The Metcalfe Digital Opportunity Award
In honor of Jane Metcalfe, Founder of WIRED magazine and a One Economy Board Member, this award recognizes leadership in the democratization of technology and the Internet. This year’s Metcalfe Digital Opportunity Award winner was FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski, who accepted the award on behalf of the FCC National Broadband Team for its leadership in creating the National Broadband Plan and promoting broadband adoption.
The Lisa Y. Sullivan Award
In memory of founding One Economy Board Member and tireless advocate for urban youth, Lisa Sullivan, this award honors exceptional youth who use technology to transform their communities. This year’s Lisa Y. Sullivan Award winner was Amet Aljahmi, a Digital Connector from Dearborn, Michigan, who has impressed One Economy with her service and work ethic. Amet has a deep passion for school, something she attributes to lessons learned in the Digital Connector program.
